Cleveland-Lloyd Dinosaur Quarry

So, we became a little obsessed about dinosaurs this past summer.  We had heard that there was a dinosaur quarry out in Carbon county and we had noticed the signs for it one day when we were in Price.  So, one day we ventured out to find the dinosaur quarry.  Well, there is a town called Cleveland and the signs pointed us that direction.  We didn't think it would be too far away from the town.  Let me tell you...it was way out there.  They didn't ever post the miles on any of the signs because if anyone knew how far out there it was, they would never go.  Good thing we were prepared and carried plenty of water and doughnuts with us.  Plus, it was a dirt road.  When we got to the visitors center, it was about noon and we were the first visitors of the day.  We had the visitor's center all to ourselves.  We were hugely disappointed to find out that the U of U scientists had been there all week digging for fossils, but they had cleaned up and moved out just the day before.
Here is a description of the quarry from their website:
"The Cleveland-Lloyd Dinosaur Quarry is one of the world's foremost dinosaur fossil sources.  More that 12,000 individual bones and one dinosaur egg have come this this prolific fossil bed.  It is like that many "Complete skeletons" have been recovered, although it is impossible to state that with certainty because the bones are in a disarticulate state.  At the Visitor Center you can see a complete Allosaur skeleton and a Stegosaur wall mount.  You can view the work in progress in a covered building, where you can see actual bones in place.  Recognized worldwide as the primary source of fossilized bones from the flesh-eating Allosaur, the quarry was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1966."
It was totally cool, but I would recommend that before you make the long drive out there, call and see when the paleotologists will be digging.  That would be really COOL.  Oh, and use the restroom before you get there and take plenty of food and water.

So how fun. Isaac is having a dino party for his birthday in Nov. I am trying to think of some creative games and stuff. Let me know if you have any fun ideas.
