More about names...

Ethel Norton Dalton
I have been reading my scriptures on my new iPad that I got for Christmas and so I haven't accessed Gospel Library on my phone for a while.  When I opened it up today, the page that came up was Chapter 9 from My Heritage.  This is the section that I had highlighted…

George Albert Smith's 42 years in the Quorum of the Twelve were filled with noble service, despite episodes of poor health.  His eyes were damaged by the sun while serving for the railroad in Southern Utah, and surgery failed to correct his near blindness. Increased pressures and demands on his time weakened his frail body, and in 1909 he collapsed from exhaustion. The doctors order of complete rest eroded his self-confidence, created feelings of worthlessness, and aggravated tension.
During this difficult time, George had a dream in which he saw a beautiful forest near a large lake.  After he had walked some distance through the forest, he recognized his beloved grandfather, George A. Smith coming toward him.  George hurried forward, but as his grandfather drew near, he stopped and said, "I would like to know what you have done with my name."  A panorama of his life passed through George's mind and he humbly replied, "I have never done anything with your name of which you need be ashamed."

5 generations of Dalton

This is one of the approximately 150 photos that I "borrowed" from my Aunt Dolores last year, scanned last fall, and passed out to my mom, siblings, cousins, and Aunt Dolores on Mother's Day.
When we initially sorted through these photos, we assumed this was an important photo.  However, when I was scanning this photo and labeling it, I didn't know exactly who it was.  I emailed the photo to my mom.  She had a hard time identifying the women in this photo.  She guessed that they were Daltons--because they obviously we NOT Nortons and because they had a "Dalton look" to them.
Well, I got an email from my cousin, Melinda a few days ago.  They had taken a closer look at the photos and were able to identify these 5 people.  It is a 5 generation photo and according to Dolores, they are...
Grandma Catherine Melissa Hulet Dalley, (my Great-Great-Grandmother:  18 May 1860 (Springville, UT)- 28 November 1856 (Joseph, UT; buried in Circleville))
Grandma Ida Marilla Dalley Dalton, (my Great-Grandmothe:r  10 September 1884(Summer, UT)- 30 April 1976 (Circleville, UT))
Iola Melissa Dalton Macintosh, (my Grandpa, Morgan Leon Dalton's sister:  26 February 1907 (Circleville, UT)Jan 1975 or 1973)
Wanda Fauntell Macintosh Riddle, (11 October 1925 (Junction , UT)-19 January 1973, (Antimony, UT))
and her baby Jeanine Riddle.

So, although not all 5 people in this photo are in my direct line, it is significant because as of now, this is the only picture that we have of Catherine Melissa Dally and Ida Marilla Dalley.
And we have very few photos of my Grandfather, Morgan Leon Dalton, especially pictures of him as a baby or a child.
I am just sad that the photo is damaged.  I will have to do some research to determine the approximate date of this photo.
More photos and stories to come...
ETA:
my mom has determined that by the age of the baby (her cousin), this photo would have to have been taken around 1940,1941.  Still working on this...

Done!! Again!!

I thought I was done with all of these vintage photos, but then I realized that I didn't include any of my Grandma Ethel or her Mother, Esther May Smith...
so here you go.

Esther May Smith Norton
This photo hung in my Grandma Ethel's bedroom for as long as I can remember.

I'm not sure when any of these photos were taken.
That is the next project.
All together I scanned 140 photos.

Done!!!

I saved the best for last...
I think I spent about 12 to 14 hours scanning photos the last week.
These turned out so cute.
I can't tell if Sierra looks more like my mom or if Halle looks more like my mom.
I'll do a comparison one of these days.

some questions for mom

I've been scanning again.
My fingers hurt from typing and pushing the scanner buttons.
Serious.
My kids are in the kitchen emptying the dishwasher and making dinner.
It could be interesting...

 Mom, is this you?

Maybe you didn't want your picture taken?

More to come.
I'm saving the best for last.

Look how cute you are.  were.

This is the ONLY picture I have of anything Dalton.  at all.
Raymond, Sylva, Morgon Leon, & Dolores

And I will need help with this one...
I assume it was taken in Parawon.
I can make a guess on 2 of them, maybe 3.
I will certainly need the help of you and Dolores one of these days.

I'm about half way done scanning photos.
I may have to stop soon and cook. and do laundry.  and shower.
But, I am on a roll......

Lunch with the Dalton Gang

Sisters, Dolores & Nan Nell
There are just two children in my Mom's family.  Dolores is older, by 9 years.
Melinda, Dolores, Nan Nell, Brandi, & Kelli
We have tried to plan for quite a while to get together and share our photos from our family history.
It finally happened last Thursday.  We met at Melinda's house in Salt Lake.
We ate lunch at Melinda's house--it was easiest that way since Dolores had recently had knee replacement surgery and it was difficult to get around.

I had about 10 photos.  Nanners had a few more.  Dolores and Melinda had A LOT.

Dalton photos
Most of these photos are originals and some are in very fragile condition.
pages from Grandma Ethel's photo album
It's hard to tell with the black on black, but this is what remains of my Grandma Ethel's photo album.
I was really brave, and just before we left I asked Dolores if I could take the photos and copy them.
I have a pretty full schedule for the next few weeks, but I told everyone that in July (or maybe September when school starts) I would scan the photos, we could try to label them, and then put them on a disc for everyone.  I was so afraid when I took the photos with me that I would put them in a special place and then forget where I put them.  But, for now they are locked up in the safe until I get a big chunk of time to devote to this project.

Happy Birth Week to me

At church today, the Relief Society President came in YW and gave me a birthday happy.
I was certainly surprised since my birthday is in exactly one week.
I took it as a sign that I should be celebrating my birthday all week long.

And because of my recent family history class experience,
I have been going through all kinds of old papers, photos, and treasures.
Soooo, be prepared for Kelli overload.

This photo was taken in Circleville, Utah.
This is Kelli and Kent.
It was my blessing day.
