"Neighbors bring food with death and flowers with sickness and little things in between. Boo was our neighbor. He gave us two soap dolls, a broken watch and chain, a pair of good-luck pennies, and our lives. But neighbors give in return. We never put back into the tree what we took out of it: we had given him nothing, and it made me sad." - Scout in Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird

Why does it always happen on a holiday weekend?
I came from the gym on Saturday morning and I heard Rick yell, "Kel, come down stairs!" As I was walking down the stairs I could smell the smell of when you run over the end of a rug or something and it get stuck in the vacuum and it starts to smell like burning rubber before you can hurry and get the vacuum turned off. Well... I was...pretty...sure ...Rick wasn't using the vacuum. He was sitting on the couch playing the XBOX. But, he assured me he was being productive. He was waiting for the next cycle on the furnace just to make sure the terrible smell and funny rubbing noise was indeed coming from the furnace. Sure enough. With a predicted high of about 7 on Saturday, our furnace is on the fritz. We called the # on the side of the furnace and the guy who answered lived across the street from the in-laws. He said he'd be happy (mind you, he's never happy), he'd be happy to run down and confirm that something was wrong with the furnace, but really nobody could be out to fix it until about April sometime. So, if you are coming to our house any time soon, wear a big coat and 2 pairs of socks. And the forecast is for more cold and a big snowstorm tomorrow. xoxo
